6 tips in the event of a traffic accident
1. Your safety first
If you are involved in a traffic accident resulting in personal injury, it is important that you first get yourself to safety. It is important to create a safe environment for yourself and everyone involved in the accident. If there is danger, call 112 immediately and ask passersby for help.
2. The claim form
It's still far too common for disputes to arise because a claim form has been completed incorrectly or incompletely. We advise you to avoid these disputes by recording all the circumstances of the accident as thoroughly as possible. If possible, try to complete the claim form together. Always record the other party's license plate in case you lose the claim form or it becomes illegible. It's important that everything is completed as soon as possible after the accident and that no agreements are made to handle it later.
3. Evidence and witnesses
Record as many names and addresses of witnesses and other bystanders to the traffic accident as possible. Don't forget to record their phone numbers so you can contact them directly if necessary. This prevents complicated discussions about the circumstances of the accident during the compensation claim process. The more witnesses you can bring, the better. Photos can help you demonstrate the actual situation at the time of the accident. Take photos of the vehicles (the damage to and location of the vehicles), the surrounding area, any injuries or other damage, and the traffic situation.
It is important to collect the most important information immediately:
- Where did the traffic accident take place?
- When did the traffic accident occur?
- Who was involved in the accident?
- How did the traffic accident happen?
- Take photos of the situation and the damage and/or injuries.
- Record the details of the opposing party and witnesses.
4. Police
Is the other party in the traffic accident uncooperative? Or has the other party left the scene of the accident, or is there a dispute about the circumstances? Call 112 immediately and describe the situation as specifically as possible. Be sure to note the license plate number and take a photo of the vehicle so the police can take further action.
5. Seek medical attention
It's crucial for your health to have your injuries and other injuries promptly assessed by a doctor. This can promote recovery and minimize your injuries and damages. To claim damages after a car accident, it's essential to prove that your injuries were caused by the accident. Document your injuries with photos to avoid disputes later.
6. Hire a personal injury expert
If you've been involved in a traffic accident and suffered personal injury, it's important to recover your damages from the liable party. The process of claiming compensation can be complex and time-consuming.
Hardt Advocaten takes care of this for you by managing the entire process, from damage assessment to the final claim. Our personal injury lawyers and attorneys will provide the necessary evidence, such as medical reports and witness statements, to support your right to compensation. This allows you to focus on your recovery.

Compensation can consist of various items. Possible items include loss of income, medical expenses, property damage, travel expenses, and household assistance. This list is not exhaustive: all damage caused by someone else's negligence can be included as a claim.
You can therefore claim compensation for all forms of suffering you have experienced as a victim. In addition to such material damages, you may also be entitled to compensation for non-material damages (psychological harm), which we call non-pecuniary damages.

This is how we work
1
Advice on personal injury
Feel free to contact us to share your story with our personal injury lawyers. We'll invite you for an intake interview or visit you to hear your story.
2
Determining liability
We hold the at-fault party liable for your damages. If the at-fault party in a traffic accident, for example, is unknown, in some cases the damages will be compensated by another party.
3
Determine advance payment
If you've suffered damages, we'll ensure the other party pays you an advance on the compensation. This way, you don't have to wait for the case to be settled before receiving compensation.
4
Claiming damages and aftercare
Once our personal injury lawyer has clearly assessed the damages, they will submit them to the other party's insurer. Together with the insurer, they will determine your damages, and you will then receive compensation.
